A bunch of you guys on the forum have inspired me to expand my horizons beyond my usual 6-string open E stuff. I've been practicing for a couple months now with this E13 tuning - basically E6 with the b7 on the 8th string. It really feels like coming home...when I first started playing lap steel I listened to a ton of Tom Morrell, Lee Jeffries and Asleep At The Wheel, so this really speaks to me.
Thanks for the inspiration, and for listening.

Very nice. I'm going to try and figure out some of those licks. Is that Jamie Aebersold backing you up?

Nice, Steve! Some good original licks there. Like the dissonant lick Lee mentioned as well as some of the reverse sweep picking stuff.

Steve........as always, a fabulous display of playing with your hybrid picking style (flatpick held with thumb/index finger while middle/ring fingers pick separately).

You sure have some talent for playin'. WOW.

Thanks guys - I appreciate the feedback. As always, I'm using the hybrid picking technique that Stephen mentioned above, flatpick, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th fingers. I never could get a feel for the thumbpick and metal fingerpicks.

Steve, you're burnin' up the wires there. Totally enjoyed it.

Could you spell out your tuning? I can't quite "see" it through the smoke! Whoa!

I really liked your playing there, Steve. What kind of amp were you using? It was a bit too distorted through the video to tell.

Low to high the tuning is D B C# E G# B C# E, with the 8th string D up an octave.
The amp is a Peavey Special 130(solid-state).

Has enyone ever competely duplicated Joaquin Murphy's rides on the Any Parker Plainsmen record ?
I have never heard his attack and phrasing by any of the great Steel Players in later years.
