Topic: Need help dating an Emmons P/P |

OK I know this is a dead horse reincarnated, but I am trying to get an accurate ball park on a Guitar I ordered direct from the factory (through Clem Schmitz when he was still in Minneapolis). I still own the guitar and if you look at my profile here on the Forum, it's the guitar I'm playing in the photo. The serial # stamped on the casting is 6704, there may be a D following or proceeding but it's been a while since I opened the case. The guitar has the newer LaGrande style pedals (narrow black rather than wide cast floor pedals). I ordered the guitar with an all wood frame because I didn't like the sound of the aluminum necks on my Sho Bud. Any help would be appreciated! I got the guitar in 1982 or 1983.

Dan, I don't think you can accurately determine the exact build date unless Emmons guitar has its records. The end plates were stamped way before guitars were built and as they built guitars, they just grabbed an end plate in no significate order. I had 6745 I believe and it was an 83 model straight from Ron at Emmons. My serial may not be exact but think that's what it was, it wa 67??. Mine had the older pedals but I think you could order either. Hope this helps.
Is that guitar a bolt on changer? Just wandering since you said it had wood necks. I think all wood neck Emmons are bolt on.

Dan, other than calling Emmons for an exact shipping date. I'd say you pretty much have it narrowed down.

The proper way to date them is to bring flowers and take them out for a nice dinner and dancing.

| i've got a mystery number on one pp. it is clearly an early 70's wood neck d10 with the number 3846 d which doesn't exist on any chart i've seen. my guess is that the endplate was replaced after the steel was damaged. any ideas? |

My Emmons Push-Pull with Le Grande floor pedals is SN 6698. Rebecca Lashley told me it was a 1983.

That is a mysterious number Chris. I never heard of 3800's in any Emmons steels but really don't know that much about the all pull Emmons

I shoulda known!!!! Thanks for all the help guys, I'm going with 83 and calling it a wrap. This is the best community of players out there, for any instrument! I'm proud to be a member and a long time student of this fascinating beast.

Dan, the thing is. None of us here know exactly. Best we can do is make educated guesses.
Just contact Emmons guitar. Tell them what you need. And Bobbie will tell you all there is to tell. Just last week she tracked one for me that is 49 years old and has no serial#.
