Have any of you worked out this song on lap steel?
I would love to hear it.
I am going to work on this song, and I think it will lay out nicely on any 6th tuning.
Listen to Vince's piano part at 2:35. I had listened to this song hundreds of times and never noticed his use of the 6th chord. Was it an accident? He only hits that interval once that I can hear, but to me it inspires a whole new arrangement that I can hear in my head.

Good choice, Dom. I remember the melody well. It is a great hook. Funnily, I had blocked the whole swing section on I IV V out of my memory. It was like hearing it for the first time yet the beginning is so familiar.
have fun with it. |

Guaraldi was probably one of the most prolific composers of his time. A true genius.
This piece has haunted the back of my mind since I first heard it.
You thinking of Tabbing it ?? |

Man! I haven't heard that song in a long time! Wasn't it the "B" side of Bobby Darin's "Splish Splash?" |

Mitch,
I looked up his records and can't find CYFTTW! I did find "Beachcomber" which is possibly the song I was thinking of. It was an instrumental by Darin. However, I clearly remember "Cast Your Fate", from that same time period, and it was a B side I'm pretty sure. And, I had no Jazz records back then, as I was pretty much a Link Wray rock and roll kid. I placed a call to a friend who will definitely know, but no one is home! This is gonna bug me until I find out!
Did Vince have a big hit record with it? Perhaps that's the answer????? |

Yes. Guaraldi did have a sizable hit with it--early 60s??? But that is several years after Splish Splash.
Are you thinking of Shelby Flint--she also put out Cast Your Fate To The Wind in 1966. She had kind of a folky sound on other records, but I can't specifically recall her version of Cast Your Fate. I assume it was the same song and a vocal. |

It must be Vince's recording then. Cause that's the right time period. And if it was out as a 45, well,,,, that must be it. |
