Just running this one up the board again...
We've heard from Mike Siegler above and I've also heard from Jerry Brightman that he's now confirmed.

I just wanted to pubilicly thank Chubby Howard and everyone who helped him put on a wonderful event yesterday in Fairborn, OH.
All steel shows begin and end with an excellent staff band and this one was no exception. Thanks guys, I loved it and so did everyone I talked with.
Guitar great Gary Adams(George Jones, Johnny Paycheck) played lead guitar for Doug and Herby and also sang several tunes. Man! what a player.
I bought CD's by Mike Sigler and John Hughey, and Doug Jernigan's "100 Hot Licks" instructional tab and tape.
I received some personal encouragement to practice, practice, practice from my new friend, Jerry Brightman. Thanks, Jerry.
I have still yet to attend a steel show where Herby Wallace and Rob Parker were absent. You guys must make them all. Compliments to you both on "Sing A Sad Song".
Great show everyone!

Sorry also Ron But I had a great time anyway!
I thought the show was good but could of used more technical support (sound man with the instruments mixed). All the players I though sounded great. Zums & Emmons were the steels of choice. Hughey's tone, Herbys dynamics, Brightman's straight ahead good country steel, Jernigans speed and man is Mike Sigler a monster.I thought the local players played well (Kenny Hollicross & Bill Ersal, Joe Adams & of course Chubby. Rusty Did a great job also with chubbys son singing.
It was overall a good day. But I saw 4 or 5 steelers I know, that I would of loved to hear play instead of the dead time.
Ron yourself, Eddie Harper, Mike Keating and Tony Rankin & Wendy Hargrave just to name a few. (but you can't have everything I guess.)
All in all a good show that could (In my opinion have been better.)
I don't think it wasn very well publised either except to the steel guitar Forum from yourself Ron.I still think there is a much larger audience for this kind of event if we can just get it to the good country music fans.
My 2 Cents
Jim

It was indeed a fantastic show. And, in addition to the always fine performance of Herby Wallace and John Hughey, Mike Sigler was absolutely awesome. What a great player! He broke his third string on the second song and played the whole set like nothing had happened.
It was nice meeting Jim Whitaker and talking with Eddie Harper and several other good friends. But Jim!!! Believe me, you wouldn't want to hear me play. All those other guys, yeah, but not me!
Does anyone know the name of the song (ballad) that Gary Adams sang with Doug Jernigan? I am unfamiliar with it, but have been humming the chorus for two days now. Great tune! |

Great show..and it was great getting to meet some more of the Forum folks...
Chubby does a lot for steel guitar with his Saturday radio show, as he plays classic country music from 11:00 to 4:00 on Saturday and does a show on Sunday as well...
I also want to thank all of the backup musicians who provided great support
and donated thier time...
Thanks for all the kind words.

I thought it too ws a fantastic show and good to see some of my fellow steel players that we should see more of and not wait for a steel show. I had to leave early because of a committment at Church and missed "The Man John Hughey" Herby was great as usual and got to hear for the first time Jerry Brightman and what a great steel player he is. Jerry would you care to share the settings you were using on your Nashville 1000? And Mike Sigler is a monster player. He has to be the fastest Human alive. I put a cut of Jonny B Goode on my Transkriber and it still didn't slow it down enough to learn the parts. All in all it was a Great Show and enjoyed it but I tend to agree with Jim that there could have been a lot less dead space and I'm sure some of the local steelers would be glad to pitch in and give Chubby a hand and take some of the load off. |

Tony,
I think the song that Gary did with Doug, that you are asking about is "Half A Man.".. Willie Nelson may be the writer..but he has a version out as does Merle Haggard...
Good song...
They also did "Making The Rounds"....Thats an old Dickens tune, and also George Jones had a version out...

Rob,
It was "Making the Rounds" and thanks very much for the reply.
I also really liked the tune you did (I belive it was with Herby Wallace) although I can't remember the name of it either. It was one that you hadn't done with Herby before.
It was a really fine show and of course, you always do a great job!
Thanks again,
Tony
