Does anyone know how Russ Pahl has his 2 pedal Show pro set up? I think I heard he has 4 knees, but I haven't heard any speculation as to how he is tuned, and what everything does. I assume the 2 pedals are E9 A&B, and one lever must raise the 4th string, to get the C pedal changes? I am all for a simpler bare bones set up myself. Russ does mighty fine with his, and I'm Mighty curious.

I was curious , too.

So, being the brazen fool that I am, I just came right out and asked him.

His reply:

Hey Stan......good to hear from you....
My setup is actually a very standard "Emmons" E9 setup
With two exceptions........
I'm tuned down 1/2 step to
E-flat-9
Also....instead of the 3rd pedal,
I have a lever (RNL) that raises strings 4 & 8 a whole tone each.
Thanks, Russ

I saw a picture of his new ShoPro, it's kind of an SD-10 with a wide back deck that has a two volume/ two tone knob and switch setup (and two pickups) very similar to a Les Paul. I've never seen anything like it.

Doesn't one of his Show Pro's back neck have a longer scale, 25" maybe and tunes it to D and has 2 or 3 pickups?

I think he had that de-constructed, Tony.

From the SHowPro site :
Quote:
Russ's first Show Pro was a custom Double Neck Show Pro with multiple pickups & dual scale
necks for alternate tunings...Russ discovered with different pickup combinations and blending he could achieve what he wanted with just one neck. We gutted his first guitar and started from square one. A new laminated neck was made to accommodate a second neck pickup."

I had the great pleasure of hanging with Russ at a recent TV show taping that I was mixing. Russ was playing his gold Show Pro in Willie's bluegrass studio band. He is a wonderful guy and a GREAT musician. He is a self-described neo-traditionalist. He is on the cutting edge of new overdriven sounds that are inspired by modern slide guitar players. He is also remarkable at 50 year old traditional country styles. His blending of pickups on the gold Show Pro allows some pretty unique and fresh sounds. He is constantly experimenting with pickup winding, placement, new amp hook ups, etc.

It was a real treat to get to hang with such an innovator.

Hey Guys,

RUSS PAHL is now at www.nashvilleprosteel.com

Here's his promo video, check it out...

https://youtu.be/FdtvenGLWHw

BTW... just added the full-length demo of his guitar at the NPS website. Russ goes over every knob and detail of this amazing guitar along with playing samples to hear what everything does. A full pedalboard demo will be up there at some point, too.

Being a member of NPS has its advantages!

Here's another nugget of info... Russ uses a Fender Princeton for his sessions.

Thanks for listening.

I just subscribed to Nashville Prosteel a few days ago and have thoroughly enjoyed learning from the session steel players associated with this venue. I would encourage steel players who are interested in how it is done in the studio today to check out this opportunity to increase your steel guitar knowledge.

I'd like to know if the pedals went Day or Emmons,
and subsequently which knee his pedal C raises is on.
Can't tell from the video.

Happy St. Pattys! Thanks for the video link.

I'm impressed with how Russ controls his efx from the guitar.

I am too, it's very Danelectro.
Really economical pedal setup, more going on with electronics.
And a lot of takes in the session.
