The tech that set up my new HP DV7Z say's it reads only 1GB of RAM. But it's advertised and reviewed as having 4.
What gives?
I'm running Vista, but only using funky wireless does it drag and not provide video, etc. properly.

Did the HP dude say what it's supposed to "have" as opposed to "read"??

Couple of things:

Look in the BIOS (probably accessed by tapping F2 or delete key repeatedly during the boot process). You should see some clear indication of installed RAM there.

Or, go to control panels and look for something like system and drill down into the tabs that it brings up.

Here is what it says on my Windows 7 machine; you should be able to find something very similar. I've got 4 installed and 3.25 usable.

Or: bring up task manager with control/alt/delete and look at the performance tab. Then look in the physical memory box. Mine says 3.25.

Smile go to control panel and open system if it says that you only have 1 GB of ram then u got screwed. However if you mistakenly read the promo and it said that it "supports" 4 GB of ram then it means you messed up and mistook the amount of "installed" ram for maximum amount of ram that can be installed.....oops on you. Remember a 32 bit (x86) OS can only see and use 3.25 GB approx.A 64 bit OS can see and use 128 GB of ram.Wireless works fine and is only limited by the actual connection speed to the net. Winking [/i],,,,,u beat me Mitch lol

Memtest will get to the bottom of it:

You don't need to order the CD from them, click on free download, get an ISO image, and burn that to a CD using something like ImgBurn.
