So I restrung my GFI SM (love it, by the way) yesterday. It's set up standard E9 with 3/4.

Now I can't get the 6th string adjusted so that I can raise it from Ab to A. The third string works fine.

Believe I'm doing the fine tune adjustment correctly.
1) Tune string to Ab
2) Depress pedal 2 and use hex tuner to attempt to tune to A.

But I can't seem to get a full half-step "distance" between the two. At some point raising the pitch of the fine tuner just raises the pitch of the string in general.

Does that make sense?

Oh, and we have a rare gig on Friday. Winking

Any help appreciated.

Cheers,
Eric

Did you go from a plain to a wound? Also make sure you are using the same gauge. I am guessing you have replaced a plain with a wound. Hope this helps.

I DID put a wound on there. Running down to the music room right now to do a switch. Will report back in a moment.

Thanks for the quick reply, Scott!

BIG difference in the amount of travel needed for a wound string. Adjusting the pedal stop for more travel would be needed to make it work. A .020 plain will probably get you back to what you were. Scott

A good lesson is learned and just make a note of what gauge is where and it can eliminate a ton of tuning problems. You will be amazed at how many E 9th string sets use different gauges and can lead to pulls needing a bunch of tuning. Scott
