I played all the songs
and hit all the licks
I've seen all the backsides
from New York to the sticks

I got payed for my work
and spent more than I made
but a steel players cash
is not to be saved

I played for the fun
I played for the glory
sometimes for the women
sometimes for the stories

The front man would say
I'm doing a record
I like your great picking
so I'll give you the session

The producer says no his
playing is lackin
I'm paying for this
so I'm using Paul Franklin

So my steel friends
it's the weekends for me
where the pay is all mine
and the beer sometimes free

There is on occation those
days I do miss.....
