Most browsers use the Java plug-in. If your browsers are using Java they must be kept updated when new versions are released. Usually, new releases fix serious vulnerabilities and this update is no exception. The new version is Version 6 Update 17, available for most operating systems and browsers. It fixes 33 bugs or security vulnerabilities, some of which are being exploited in the wild.
Furthermore, updating Java now removes previous versions of Java, as far back as version 1_6 Update 10. Older builds will need to be manually uninstalled, via Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs > Java...
If you have Java installed on your computer (most do) and use Windows OS, go to Settings > Control Panel and locate the cool Java icon. Double click on it to open the properties sheet. There is an Update tab. Use the button on the tab page to check for updates and download and install the latest version if you don't already have it.
This is for the security of your computer and the betterment of humankind in general. The more people who become aware of how to keep their PCs secure, the less success the Bolshevik Bot Masters will have building and maintaining criminal Botnets. _________________ "Wiz" Feinberg, Moderator SGF Computers Forum

Yo Wiz---I'm set up for automatic Java updates. I went to control panel and it tells me I've got 1.6.0_16-b01. When I try to manually update it tells me I've got the latest & greatest. What's up?
ps--I am a bolshevic. Or at least I applied to be one but I haven't heard back yet. |

Keep trying to update Java. If the updater in Control Panel doesn't get it for you, go to www.java.com and download the latest build manually.
