I haven't tried on of these, but have used a dual LED light that has the clip and the lights on goosenecks. One club I play at has terrible lighting. I tried clipping my lights onto the end plate, but the lights wouldn't be high enough (similar to the level where the Fretlord light would be be) causing shadows on my fretboard from my bar hand, drowning out the fret line so I could barely see it. I think this light would create the same problem. My solution was to continue using the dual light (someone made a previous post somewhere on the forum about the light I use, but I hate the search function on the forum) and clip it to a cheap music stand that I removed the section that holds the music. So, it is basically just like a small mic stand. I set it in front of my steel and aim both lights to shine a little left of and right of center. I still get shadows from ceiling lights, but this makes the fretboard more visible. _________________ Carter D10 8p/8k, Dekley S10 3p/4k C6 setup,Regal RD40 Dobro, Recording King Professional Dobro, NV400, NV112,Ibanez Gio guitar, Epiphone SG Special (open D slide guitar) . The problem I ran into was if the light is mounted on the tuner area, my left blocked the light. Same problem on the other end. The ad shows this being used on a fretted instrument which is probably a little easier to navigate in low light.
I removed the clip and placed the light against the rollers, under the strings shinning towards the pickup end and it got me through the dark.
I'd try it out at home so you know what to expect before you get on stage. It's different....
I use a vocal mic and found that clipping the light to the mic cord above my steel worked much better. _________________ Always remember you're unique..... Just like everyone else |

What about a blacklight? On a black fretboard, the white frets would glow, and it could look pretty cool. _________________ www.pedalsteel.ca |
