Hi Forum,
Below is the text from a press release in my local paper.
2002 sees the release of a brand new Matt Dawson CD, 'The Fisherman's Dream', a tribute to the music of British songwriter John Martyn.
"I fell in love with the sound of the pedal steel guitar and the music of John Martyn in the late seventies; I've had this idea of recording steel guitar versions of his songs ever since. Somehow his songs seem as apt in these troubled times as they did then. I set up a little Boss BR-8 recording studio in my cellar - a great way to record- I did the mixing and played all the guitars, keyboards and drums myself-Thomas Winiarski played contrabass. There was no rhyme or reason to
this project, I did it for the simple reason that I love the songs and it was fun to do." For the last 2 years I have been playing pedal steel on tour in with Julian Dawson and Andy Metcalf (Squeeze, Softboys).
See ; http://webplaza.pt.lu/dawson/music.html for MP3s
Send a mail to dawson@pt.lu if you want one (10 bucks or 10 Euros to cover postage and costs).
I would say this is not a 'steel guitar record', more a regular record with steel heavily featured.
Cheers Matt

Matt:
nice stuff on the MP3 samples!!Not the typical steel fare...You will be hearing from me via e-mail about ordering...
I listened to Martyn in the 70's, bought at leat one of his albums. I like your arrangements and the use of the steel in them...
Those who like steel in unusual contexts should visit his site and take a listen...

Thanks for the nice comments Dave,
Email me your address and Ill be happy to send you one (for free). If I was in it for the money I would have done steel versions of Britney Spears. Now THERES a thought! Haha
I reckon that if I havent got the chops by now I never will have, so I compensate by trying to put simple steel in unusual places.
(That laid me open to some rude one liners .....)
