I just heard a classic recording this morning on the radio by Bill Wimberly's Western Swing Band featuring the great Thumbs Carlise on guitar.
The song featured Wimberly vocals and Thumbs playing like all these famous lead players. It was super! How many of you have ever heard this? I would love a copy of this but don't know where to get it.

Search YouTube and you will find quite a few vids with 'Thumbs' featured. I don't know about the one you heard though.

I believe it may have been in the 50s or 60s. ?? Thumbs played in a road band w/ steel guitarist Neal Livingston.
One club owner protested:"Hey I won't pay for 2 steel
guitar players."

I seem to remember Thumbs Carlisle being the featured guitarist on the Roger Miller show in the '60's or '70's, anyone else? |

I had the opportunity to see & hear Thumbs play at one of the Jeff Newman fanfare days or something like that back in 1983. Buddy Emmons was there, Johnny Cox, Duane Marrs, Bob Browning & a whole bunch of us weekend warriors.
I have never heard sounds come out quite like the way Thumbs played, it was just fantastic. I feel honored to have heard him. I am sure there are some guys here on the forum that were there that weekend.
I had ridden my 1980 Yamaha XS1100 down from Maryland with my wife. We had a great time.
