What are some good examples of songs played with E13 tuning? I'm in the market for a double neck steel, and want to go C6 and E13, but really haven't heard E13. I play pedal steel with a C6 and E9, and it sounds like it's similar.

I use the Tom Morrel E13 type tuning. Listen to the time warp top hands recordings to check that out. The Leon McAuliffe E13 is more standard. Check out Joaquin Murphey and I'm pretty sure Noel Boggs for that.I use the E13 as a brighter/higher voicing than my C neck. It also has a tritone built into it that come in very handy.

| Fred, I believe Don Helms was known for using E13 with Hank Williams, and it does have a similar sound to C6 as the intervals are the same. |

I am not an expert on this stuff but the intervals are quite different between the C6 and E13 tuning. The chord options seem more complex and interesting on the E13 to me. I haven't quite wrapped my head around it yet but its coming along slowly.

| For those of us not in the know, what notes are you using for E13 and C6? I mean which notes on each string - e.g., E C# B G# E D B E, low to high, for E13, or something else? |

Two e13's i've been using:
Leon variation, hi to lo: E C# B G# F# D B G#
Heres one with a g# on top,
(good for slanting 3rds): G# E C# B G# F# D B(or E)
I'm going to futz with the Boggs variation for awhile and see how that goes...you can drop the c# and get a great e9 if you want. I have a feeling I wont like not having the B up higher but we'll see.
I like having the 9th interval in e13's...if I just need a 7th i'll slant on a 6th tuning. And I always pair the e tunings with an A6...prefer that to c6 with an e13.

On a double neck, is it typical to have a 6th tuning, and a 13th tuning? Or are there other commonly used alternative tunings? The 13th tuning now has my curiosity piqued.

My gosh! I've never seen myself listed with such distinguished company! 
"My" E13th is what Little Roy Wiggins used, and what I always thought was the standard Nashville tuning before pedals came along and changed everything to E9th. I guess I was wrong about that. My back neck is A6th as often as C6th - the same gauges work for both, and 4 of the strings are tuned the same for both.
