I have a'68 BF Dual Showman head and I am sorting out an extension cabinet for it. I am contemplating either a 2x12 with two 8 ohms speakers or possible (2) 1x12 cabinets with a 4 ohm 12 in each. The dual showman has a 4 ohm transformer with a 2 ohm tap for the extension speaker so I can go either way. My question is: how does the Peavey Black Widow 1203-4 or the 8 ohm Blue Marvel (presumably the same one that comes in the N112) compare tone wise to other 12s like old school JBLs, Evs, etc. or even the Eminence Delta Pro 12A? Any thoughts would be welcome and thanks in advance. |

Hey Gary: Let me preface my comments with the caveat that I am not the world's expert on speakers. I have been playing 51 years and used everything you can think of though. My first experience with the Blue Marvel was in a Peavey Classic 30 for use with my Tele. Peavey is renown for reliability and durability. The Blue Marvel fits this objective HOWEVER my experience was that it never broke in and achieved a sweet sound. It remained very sterile. I ended up replacing it. I use BW1501-4 with my rack set up for steel. I don't think anything will give you the old D130-4 sound but our forumate Tom Bradshaw has resurrected the Webb amp and has done much experimentation with speakers. I suggest you contact him and pick his brain.
Best of Luck,
Jim |

Thanks for the response Jim. Your comments more or less bolster my impressions of the Blue Marvel - nice overall but kind of sterile. |

You know I love ya Tom. Yes, you have a brain and a wealth of experience. No one ever notices the brain because you have a heart the size of Kansas.
Your buddy,
