That site has been up for a couple of years. It's a "geek site", for sure. Dean has collected, researched, and described in detail all of the variations of National finger picks over the years. It seems like much ado about nothing IMO, but now sellers on eBay talk about "oval 8s", the shape of the blades, etc. and they price vintage National picks based on their rarity. It sounds ridiculous, but I have seen a pair of early Nationals sell for over $200 on eBay. Banjo players think these picks are special because Scruggs used them back in the day.
Back in the 1970s I bought National picks for 15 cents each at my local music store. I guess that’s why I can’t take all the hype about “vintage” National picks seriously. For the past several years I’ve used Kyser, which are exact copies of the old Nationals, hand-made of German nickel silver.
