Just want to wish all my Steel Guitar friends in Canada a very happy Thanksgiving Day today. Yes, we celebrate Thanksgiving Day here in Canada, always in October and usually a great turkey dinner ! |

WHERE, oh WHERE, did the pilgrims in Canada land?
I tho't it was on a rock in Plymouth...or somewhere?
So, you're saying they stopped in...in Canada then finally dropped in on the good ole USA? |

Be sure to bring an ice pick instead of a fork, and that's just for the mashed potatos! |

HI RAY,
I hope this answerrs your question.
ROGER
----------------------------------------------------
Canada doesn't have an independence day as such. They have been running their own affairs since 1868, but Britain's Queen Elizabeth II is still their ceremonial head of state. But on the First of July 136 years ago Canada got self-governing dominion status, and began to celebrate that date as Dominion Day. |

July 1 is no longer "Dominion" Day as that obsolete terminology was abolished many moons ago. Canada is not a so-called 'dominion'. July 1 is now known as "CANADA DAY". Sorry I brought all this up in a 'steel without pedals' section. Anyway, today is Thanksgiving Day in Canada which has nothing to do with Pilgrims. We give thanks for a successful harvest, living in a free country also being proud Canadians. Tomorrow is Thanksgiving Monday, another holiday ! |

Thanks George...maybe Ray didn't get the memo that there is indeed civilization beyond the borders of the USA and that we might have something...don't know what that could possibly be...to be thankful for. Here's an idea...Ray, you're not that far away, why not take a trip north to Vancouver (British Columbia that is. I realize you'll have to bypass Vancouver Wa and it's so close...but it'll be worth it) chip a little ice off some mashed potatoes and Turkey with us. You never know, it might be an enlightening experience and you'll still have your own legitimate Thanksgiving to look forward to. Bring a Touque...sorry, wool cap. You wouldn't want to loose any of your extremities Cheers from the Great White North. Oh, the Queen has allowed us to have fire this year so the Turkey won't be raw. Now there's something to be thankful for, eh.... |

Actually Terry, Ray could probably wear his tropical clothes in Vancouver, BC as that part of our fair country is jokingly known as 'Lotus-Land'...no snow.
But were he adventurous, he could journey west from Vancouver, see the mighty Canadian Rockies, and visit with guys like you and I who live in two great cities on the Canadian Prairies where snow exists, (Edmonton and Winnipeg)...and Ray, not to worry...we had electricity installed during the past week ! |

Small directional error Ray,(above)...don't travel west from Vancouver...you'll end up in the Pacific ocean. Travel EAST from Vancouver ! |

George, west would have been an very interesting option. I thought Vancouver might be the closest town for Ray to visit and as you know...being from Edmonton, our cities in the winter, mine being Winnipeg, are not for the faint of heart. Valued extremities can be lost but not until well after Thanksgiving I'm hoping. A friend of mine once said we have the toughest homeless people in the world here in Winnipeg...and he might be right. Ray thanks for taking our banter in good spirits...you are welcome anytime you'd like to brave the western Canadian winter or summer for that matter. You won't be disappointed. Cheers and happy Thanksgiving. Enjoy. |

With the weather George Lake is having in Edmonton the last few days, he should be celebrating Christmas?
He got jokingly peeved with me for sending some nice sunny colourful Fall pictures of me on a bike trail yesterday here in Niagara.
