A Forum member asked me to record this old Civil War song "Lorena" she said Dobro players all play this song and I did a search but none could I find. Its a sad little tune which I understand was forbidden to be sung because it made the soldiers so homesick they deserted.

Anyway here is my interpretation of a very old and simple melody, hope you enjoy it.

A beautiful song played very well. The sound of a Dobro is a perfect match for this tune. Thank you for posting.

"Lorena" is dobro extraordinaire Mike Auldridge's signature tune.

Wonderful James, thank you so much. I have searched everywhere to find a recorded dobro version of the song and the only one I have found is Mike Auldridge doing it on the Seldom Scene 15th Anniversary album. It is a song you hear played by dobro players all the time so I thought I would have several versions to share with you but no such luck. You didn't need to hear anyone else play it anyhow. Wink
You did a great job! Your SX is sounding really good too. Thanks!

Thank everyone for listening to "Lorena" and to Janet for bringing it to my attention. I still can't find a Dobro version to listen to, all I could find was a Fiddle version, but its a nice little song.

In the first episode of "Lonesome Dove" the TV series, the piano player in the hotel lobby is always playing 'Lorena' because he is in love with 'Lorie' the local lady of the evening (actually anytime of the day or night) who does business in the hotel. (Just some trivia)

I believe Beverly King has a version on a recording that she plays the Dobro and sings. Maybe someone in the Forum can find it for you.

Thanx,
Jim
