All you Nashville cats who didn't make the show in St. Louis should try to see the Feral Swing Cats in Nashville.
I don't know exactly what their plans are but they said they will do some showcase type gigs in Nashville this week before returning to Australia. So I hope there will be a show open to the public.
Everybody in the group is first-rate, and they have worked out very cool arrangements like no one does anymore. |

Ironically they are touring the U.S. more than other States in Australia at the moment, but that's more indicative of the different scenes here, in some states there's a good local scene where overseas acts are frequent visitors with local acts aplenty, or there's no venues and the groups figure if they're gonna travel, why not go overseas.
Great act, Smiley Roberts put me onto them.

This band was absolutely great!!
I have to admit, you hear about a band from Australia playing at ISGC, it's not exactly exciting.
And, well, they don't exactly look like a bunch of cool Texas dudes or Nashville CMT clones, BUT CAN THEY PLAY!!!!!!!
Wow....I lovd them!
And they had a guest female singer named Felecity (or as Scotty pronounced it fella-city) who sings as beautiful as she looks!
The crowd was there until 1:00 AM in the main ballroom and wouldn't let'em leave until Scotty kicked us all out! |

My friend,Eddy Canaday, who used to play guitar for Johnny & Kitty,& Barbara Fairchild,(& Tommy Overstreet) turned me on to this group. They are DY-NO-MITE!!! If you are in NashVILE this week,DO NOT MISS THIS ACT!!! You will have 3 chances to see them.
You will hear Western Swing, the way it was meant to played, notwithstanding our own "Time Jumpers".(I hope I said that right.) Check 'em out. You won't be disappointed!

The Feral Swing Katz are incredible. One of the best bands I've ever heard. Tommy immediatly called the Opry management after arriving in Nashville from the convention and began trying to navigate the proper channels for having the Swing Katz on the Opry. After having been lead to believe there was a chance for them to perform, Tommy promptly had Michel Rose, the steel guitarist for the band go to the trouble of taking a promo pack to the Opry management.
Well as it turns out, the Opry has decided not to have them on. In all the years at the Opry, this is the first time Tommy has ever tried to help someone get on the show. Needless to say, we are very dissapointed and saddened by the fact, this wonderful music will not get the just attention it deserves while in Nashville.
Just thought you guys would like to know Tommy tried.

We're going to see them next Tuesday at Third & Lindsley. This bunch is better than great and it will be your loss if you miss their act. |

A "must see" act. Thanks for Tommy for his efforts. The female vocalists are both great(sorry, I don't have their names). |

Keep trying, Tommy and Michel. Maybe Eddie Stubbs can get them a plug or two on WSM.
I don't think I get the Opry Live telecast on my cable system anymore -- since they moved to CMT. I always find it amazing who they'll have on, and now, who they won't. Some real musical genious at work there these days.

This is the most dynamic new group I have heard in years. They would have been a killer addition to the Opry. I was sure hoping that would happen and they would be on the televised portion.
I would think that it should not be surprising that they did not get on the Opry with such a short notice. I would assume that the Opry is scheduled farther ahead than that.
I saw Tommy White on stage, sitting behind the speakers taking this group in Saturday night. Super gesture on his part to try to help them. |
