Again and again I can't stop listening to this and it shows what a great era that was,Emmylou with her Hot band.
You may all have seen this before, but for the ones who didn't.
Who knows if hank DeVito is still playing?

The scary thing about this video is to realize that it was 32 years ago. Whoa! It seems like only yesterday.

How beautiful Emmylou was. Cool

...and still is. The years have been kind to her. Cool

Much kinder that they've been to Albert's hair!!!

Look how young Rodney Crowell is, too!

Great times, and it reminds me that it was considered 'cool' to like country music in those days...

I saw that band live in 1977 opening for Wille Nelson at a beautiful outdoor venue. Hank DeVito sounded great on steel, and Albert Lee's solos on Luxury Liner blew me away... his speed patterns with the delay. wow!

In '75 or '76 I was playing in a band in Kent Ohio called Good Company. We were half way thru our first set when in walks Emmy Lou, Hank, her drummer, and I think Rodney, tho not sure anymore. Her album with Graham Parsons was a big influence on us and she was, of course, beautiful. I could barely look at her, I was so awe struck. During our break, she got on stage with her band and several members of mine and played a few tunes.
We were especially lucky in that we had our recorder set and running so got that moment on tape. When she left, she gave us all tickets to come hear her the next nite at the Blossom music stage. What a lady!! Smile

Yeah, I've always liked DeVito's playing. I saw him with Emmylou back in the day, and also with the Everly Brothers. Some of the music back then was so suited for pedal steel and is a joy to listen to even now.
DeVito wrote the hit Juice Newton had, Queen Of Hearts. Rodney cut it as well as a few others. I too wonder what he's up to these days. I'll do some poking around for info.

Geeze... I've never seen that before but I must have listened to it on the album 1000 times. I recently got my hands on a "CD" of my favorite Emmy Lou album, Elite Hotel. This stuff really takes me back!

He played on the Everly Brothers record "Some hearts" from '88, I never heard of him afterwards.

Not long after Gram's death EmmyLou did the first of long stands in a room at Knott's Berry Farm, solo. It was hard to concentrate on the great music when only a few feet away from one of the most beautiful women ever. So I went back time and time again, to get the music part... Winking

This was taken on a tour in 1987 - the scene is the Hallenstadium in Zurich. This snap is pure chance - I just happened to be walking to the back-stage area at the same time as Emmylou and someone took the photo. I'm sure she didn't even know I was there! I couldn't resist keeping the photo, though.

In actual fact, I'd drawn the 'short straw' for this tour, musically speaking - I was playing with David Allan Coe!! Crying or Very sad

She was unfailingly gracious at all times, despite the gruelling schedule devised by the promoter, and always had a kind word or a smile. I never missed her set for the whole two weeks, and I thoroughly enjoyed her and the Hot Band each and every time.

Speaking of the band, that's Forumite Steve Fishell you can just see over my left shoulder. I learned a great deal watching Steve playing with Emmy, and meeting him was another of the tour's high points.

I like Emmylou, but that song about put me in a coma it's so slow! (Not a Buck Owens fan I'm afraid...)

I think her voice has only gotten better the older she's gotten.

Yes, I agree. It's kinda slow.

Emmylou always had a sweet voice, and of course, she's easy on the eyes, which helps... but sometimes I can't understand the lyrics she's singing. She doesn't enunciate the words as clearly as most female country singers do... a minor point, but that always bugged me. Confused Cool

Let's not forget Hank's work in The Cherry Bombs, Roseanne Cash's A-list back-up band (saw them at Chicago's Park West club in the early '80's): Vince Gill on guitar, Emory Gordy on bass and somewhere in the back I think Rodney Crowell on guitar.

Hank's playing always hit home with me. Very tasteful and always fitting the song. Isn't he also a photographer?
Roger Rettig, you lucky guy! That was in Emmy's "cutest haircut" period.

What did you think of mine, Doug? I'd taken extra-special trouble with it that day... Very Happy
