I just saw him perform this at the ISGC and of course it blew me away!
Al himself told me his lapsteel is in a G tuning, but I didn't get a chance for him to elaborate on that (dobro GBDGBD?).
Then I met someone who said yes, it's a dobro tuning but backwards, DBGDBG.
Can anyone confirm this and is anyone familiar with that tuning?
Whatever he uses, it's awesome!
Oh, and it wouldn't hurt to know what lapsteel he uses as well!
Thanks.

210 views and no one knows anything about Al's tuning?
Anyone?

I can't be absolutely certain, of course, but he's almost certainly using standard open G tuning:

1. D
2. B
3. G
4. D
5. B
6. G

I've never heard of anyone tuning the opposite direction, like this:

1. G
2. B
3. D
4. G
5. B
6. D

Whoever you were talking to is mistaken.
