I am trying to remove the speaker from a Peavey 112e cabinet and it seems to be welded to the box. I removed the screws in the back but the speaker will not budge. Does anyone have any experience with these? _________________ Smokey

It will come out, but is likely sticking to the baffle. Don't just pull it forcefully, use a small putty knife, or something similar to pry it loose. It's not glued, it's just sticking in place. _________________ Best regards,

There's some rubber or foam type grommets that deteriorate and stick a lot. If it's falling apart, you'll end up scraping the bits out and replacing it. The old felt ones actually worked best (until the mice ate them). |

I seem to have blown the speaker and the replacement baskets are no longer made so I have a new speaker to put in the Cabinet. One problem is that the space around the speaker is so small that I can't get any leverage to pry it out. _________________ Smokey

Tap firmly around the circumference of the basket with a hammer. If that doesn't break it loose, try this:
Put the screws in loosely [4 of them is enough]....leave about 1/8 to 1/4" from the head to the speaker. Assuming the jacks are not protruding from the cabinet, pick the cabinet up a few inches off the floor and drop it on it's back. That should loosen it up. The gasket is probably just stuck to the cabinet. Just be sure to protect the flooring or carpeting, whatever covering you have.
I've had this happen a few times. Usually, the cork gasket will release without any damage, but since you are replacing it anyway, probably not an issue for you. |
