My Hartke 3500 is down for the count and I have a bass gig coming up. Any reason I can't use my 135 watt Ultralinear Twin head (into appropriate speakers, of course)?

I used to use a Showman head for bass. As I recall, it worked great. I'd keep the head off of the speaker cabinet, to minimize vibrations to the tubes.

I used a Showman head and a Sunn bottom with two JBL D140's for years of club gigs. Sounded great. Recently in a pinch I used the same Showman head to drive a more modern 4x10 bottom. You can increase the range of clean power by replacing the 6L6's with 6550's but you MUST run a fan.

I've used my 85 watt '65 Twin to drive a cab with 2-15" JBLs many times. It sounded better than most bass heads I've used. As long as your cab is 4 ohm, you'll be fine, and pleasantly surprised I think.

Yes, it is a nice warm sound. Just don't drive it too hard.

Great dog-pilot photo, by the way. : )

The basic difference between traditional guitar
& bass cirquits is typically a few resistor values.

I recently got an old Showman head for steel and and was surprised to get the best bass tone of my life through it. I don't think it will work for particularly loud situations though.
