Finally available is the Poco “Deliverin’†50th Anniversary concert by the Richie Furay Band from November 2018. Dave played the shows at the Troubadour and holy smokes! Of course it’s not the original Poco spitting fire and angelic vocals but hey.... You try to do a cover of this medley. I think it’s pretty wonderful. This would be a dream gig for me, but I’d never be able to get half of Rusty’s licks in there.
A truly great job Dave, and thank you for recreating some fabulous music for us Poconuts.

Don’t want to speak for Dave, but to put his cool playing into an even cooler light, he only played the soundcheck and the show that night-no rehearsal! They sent him the tapes of the set the way they were playing it. Some wood shedding, afternoon soundcheck and the show that night. Way to go, Pearl! _________________ John Macy

John Macy You rock! They did have me drive up to Bakersfield to do the show in Buck Owen's joint a couple of nights before. Seriously, though, I had to start a couple of tunes with no rehearsal!! _________________ Dave Pearlman

Whoa... well done, Dave!
There were about 713 different transitions in that medley where you could have had an Epic Fail but you just nailed it. And no real rehearsal? Hats off, brother. Hats all the way off. |

Great tone too, and with the simplest setup: on the pedal steel segment, it looks like you were playing the ETS through a NV 112. And using the amp reverb (and maybe nothing else).
It would be hard to buy a less expensive professional rig than that, so you remind us that skills are what matter most. |

Thanks. The steel was going through a custom Deluxe Reverb Reissue, and the Dobro is going through the 112. _________________ Dave Pearlman

Wonderful playing Dave! You must have done some serious homework to get all those licks in your ear. Kudos to be able to pull it off so tightly with so little rehearsal in a pressure situation (recording). I assume this medley was just a piece of the set list. Who was the guitarist? He was also spot on.

Absolutely killer, the whole thing. You guys nailed it. I'd be terrified with all those transitions.
I was in the audience at the Boston Music Hall for one of the shows when they were recording Deliverin' in 1970. I was a senior in high school, it was a school night and I had an AP chemistry test the next day. Oh well, I got through it. I walked downtown from Brookline and back after the show, to save the 50 cents each way to take the streetcar. I couldn't get any of my musician friends to go. "Hey man, that's country music!" Ha!
It is honestly hard to believe that was over 50 years ago. Geez Louise. |

Scott borrowed my Steel for a few shows they did up here doing the complete DeLiverin' album, it was fun to hang out with Scott and Richie that night. _________________ Regards, Craig

Joe. Thank you. There was really no rehearsal at all. I did one other live show with them before the Troubadour show, but there was no stopping or discussing anything. I wasn't given any notes; we just did the recording a couple of nights later. We did the whole Deliverin' album that night. Timothy B. Schmit joined us for a few songs. It was one of those 'get in and hang on' gigs! _________________ Dave Pearlman
