Hey Stephen, I am also new to the forum but have been playing pedal steel for about 35 years. I live way east of Cleveland but work in Wickliffe right next to Willoughby. If you want to get together one evening, let me know when you're going to be in town. As far as musicians in your area, I can't help you much. everyone I know is in my neck of the woods near Pa. You can drop me a line at mdershaw@progressive.com

Mark, I'll e-mail you soon, thanks a bunch for the reply.

Mickey, your videos are excellent, all of those exercises are key; I love it. I think I'm going to buy your book once some more funds are organized (buying a pedal steel sort of drains the account Shocked ) But I'll send you an e-mail when I can pull it off.

Welcome Stephan! I live in Corry, PA, right on US Route 6 which leads straight to Warren, PA. You can peruse my website which has about 400 E9th/C6th tabs and around 135 songs plus some 6 and 12 string non-pedal tab.

Hi Stephen,
I'm from closer to your east side hagnout, but still a ways away down in Kent. The band that I play in will be up in Painesville in a few weeks, a dance hall, Painesville Township Park. Our band is called Hillbilly Idol and we do straight trad country honky tonk stuff.
-have some pals down in Athens, maybe you came across Johnny Borchard down there, what a tonemeister and tasty steel player on both straight and pedal steel.
Give me an email blast if you take the notion. Best wishes and welcome to the area.
Best,
Al

Al,
Yea, I'd like to check you guys out for sure. Let me know the date. I know Johnny. I only met him once when a band I was playing with played on the same bill as the band he was in, but we got to talk for a while. But I've seen him play in a few different bands playing guitar, straight steel and pedal, and yes, he's awesome.

Thanks for the welcome!

Hey Al, I don't know if you remember me but you auditioned for a band I was in years ago. We were over in the Warren/Niles area. Are you still playin pedal steel in the band or are you doing all lap steel. I heard that H. I. went even more traditional and lost the drums.

Hi there Stephen. I'm just south of Youngstown which means a loooong way from any other PSG players. I'm a long time guitar player just starting out on PSG with Mickeys' book etc. Let me know if your playing out somewhere, like to meet and hear you.

Hi Mark,
-don't mean to detour the thread here, ..but, since Mark asked, I'll reply.

Yes, hello to you too Mark and of course I remember you and your fine psg playing, although I'm a bit cloudy on the details of that band project.

3 or 4 years ago Hillbilly Idol went drummerless for about six months and then returned with a new disc and a new drummer, ..lots of brush work and a nice swing feel. The new guy has a real responsive touch and added a bit of buoyancy and texture to the rhythm section and got us even further away from anything that sounded like alt-country or today's hot country. Plus, that's the sound that we wanted and enjoy hearing anyway. I continue to play pedal steel in the band and do some doubling on elec gtr when we do our banjo and mando tunes.

-nice to hear from you and I hope to hear you again sometime soon. We were over your way a few weeks ago for the George and Hank show in Canfield.

Hi Al. Sorry I haven't done a very good job of keeping in touch, but it's been a very busy summer.(although not musically) I missed your show at The Kent Stage! Rats! Rick Troyer's jams will be starting pretty soon. Maybe I'll see you there, and maybe we can get Stephen and some of the other Ohio PSG players, to start going to them, also. For you other folks out there, Al's band "Hillbilly Idol", is one of my favorites. They play great, original stuff, that will have you tapping your toe, laughing, being sad, or going around all day singing their songs. I've got one of their CD's that I've had for a year, and I still play it a lot! --Jake Jacoby--
