Still go see the band, but unfortunately I can't make it. My wife broke her ankle tonight (leaving for dance class, ironically), I'm playing nurse for the foreseeable future.

Hey kids, I'm filling in on steel for buddy Rick Schmidt this Friday, Sept. 18, at the weekly shuffle gig at McCabe's Beach Club, 1145 S Tremont St, Oceanside, CA. (760) 439-6646.

We play from 4:30 till 9:00. Food there is great, too, and the crowd's real friendly.
This is a swinging little joint just a few steps from the beach, great trad country band the California Rangers!
This place is a hop and a skip from Jim Palenscar's great shop, Steel Guitars of North County, so visit Jim and get that dang knee lever adjusted, come see me, make a day of it. Play hooky from work if you have to!
I'll be playing my trusty Mullen D12, Webb amp, etc.

After that, let's all go just up the road to the Swallows Inn in San Juan Capistrano to heckle forumite Jimmy Eaton playing there that night!

Yes John will be there! (hopefully not with real bells on this time John.  )
The fat guy on bass will try not to lead him astray too much, unless of course John starts getting overly enthusiastic with his fancy pickin'.
Just for the record, even though the sign out front still says "McCabe's Beach Club", it's actually now called "Larry's Beach Club", since a guy named Larry bought it. I'm just trying to keep the gig going since my gut feeling is that Larry would like to fire us rowdy hat wearin' knuckleheads in a second if we didn't pack the joint every Friday. Ha.
I'm really looking forward to John's rendition of "Flight of the Bumblebee". C'mon down and let's cheer him on! |

News Flash!!!...I've just been informed that Prof. Twang's wife has unfortunately broken a bone in her foot a couple hours ago, so John had to understandably bow out for tomorrow's gig. Bummer for everyone concerned! Luckily, well known San Diego steeler Doug Meyer will be pinch hitting for us in the steel guitar chair tomorrow. Looking forward to it Doug!
BTW, our regular burning 6 stringer, Bob Ryan, is also gonna be gone this week(on a family vacation). We have our talented friend Jim Allen filling in on guitar and fiddle....AND he sings one heck of a honky tonk tune!
