I've had my DVD for at least 6 months. You can also get them from the Timejumpers website and I believe John Hughey's site also. While I love RFD, I would rather support John's widow or the band themselves. Also, that was a one hour show, and the DVD is actually a 2 hour concert. It's a MUST HAVE.
I was actually hoping that this was new footage with Paul Franklin in the seat. _________________ Carter D10 8p/8k, Dekley S10 3p/4k C6 setup,Regal RD40 Dobro, Recording King Professional Dobro, NV400, NV112,Ibanez Gio guitar, Epiphone SG Special (open D slide guitar) . Here's a link to an airing of the TJ's with Papa John.
Scroll down to archive #447. Michael Johnathan did some interviewing of the members including JH and I thought the program was a fabulous one. A special one since it includes John. They air a tv edition of what is essentially a radio show kinda like Prairie Home Companion. This was aired on KET, one of our local PBS stations.
This program has some delightful music as you can see by the archive list. It is done at the studio in Lexington Ky. I had no idea they were taping it or I woulda been there fer sure.
I have to tell you that my Windows Media player appears to be infected somehow and I can't get any downloads at all from anyone, so I haven't seen the archive. I hope it works for you and please let me know. |

I have just today received the DVD from a friend, and have heard c. 20 minutes of it so far: It is a COOL western swing group with 3 fiddles. Actually, the same instrumentation as Spade Cooley's band. John Hughey's playing is as solid as a rock! |

I've had my my "Time Jumpers" DVD for a couple of days and all I can say is if you like good music, played with heart, played with style, with grace, elegance and total feeling, this DVD is a must have item!
The big bonus is of course the superb C6th playing of John Hughey. If you want to see what is hiding in that bottom neck, it's all here, and it will just about knock your socks off! John does a couple of pieces-to-camera as well, and the esteem in he is held by all the other band-members comes across with perfect clarity.
Of course, John also plays some very tasty E9th on the DVD as well, but the bulk of it is C6th work of matchless quality, phrasing, voicing and all the things we steel-players delight in noticing that other people either miss, or hear but don't comprehend, unaware of the superb mastery of the instrument necessary to produce those distinctive sounds.
The other ten musicians are also great players, and the whole band is tight and precise without being loud. This as as good an example of how a band should sound as you'll get.
Incidentally, for any overseas buyers, the DVD isn't region-encoded so it will play on pretty much any DVD-player or computer. The video is standard-definition NTSC. There are a number of sources of supply, but as a courtesy to John Hughey's memory I think the idea of buying from his website and thus supporting Jean Hughey is highly commendable. _________________ The steel guitar is a hard mistress. She will obsess you, bemuse and bewitch you. She will dash your hopes on what seems to be whim, only to tease you into renewing the relationship once more so she can do it to you all over again...and yet, if you somehow manage to touch her in that certain magic way, she will yield up a sound which has so much soul, raw emotion and heartfelt depth to it that she will pierce you to the very core of your being. |
