Please allow me to be a bragging parent. Yesturday, my oldest son (eighteen) graduated from basic training in Fort Leonard Wood, Mossurie.(spelling?) My wife, our other three children, my wife's parents, and two others went to his graduation. Because of our poultry farm and other circumstances, I couldn't go. Basic training went very well for him. He made high scores on all of his test. My wife e-mailed me a picture of him, and he looks so proud and thankful to be wearing his uniform! He will now go to Texas for his Advanced Individual Training. He has wanted this since he was a small boy. Being raised on a farm was a big help to him. When he was very small, he would help me on the farm during the day, and me, him, and my daddy would go coon hunting at night. We would crawl through fences, over logs, through thickets, and wade across the creeks and through the mud! We had so much fun! I tought him how to shoot, and he almost NEVER missed his target! Usually a squrrel, deer, coon or rabbit. It never crossed my mind that he would be doing the same things 13 years later in boot camp as an American Soldier! He was a true pleasure to raise. He is a gift from God. He has a two week pass coming up, so I hope to see him soon! Our whole family is SO BROUD of him! His Grandpa,(my Daddy)passed away on the 15th of last month. He had cancer and we were praying that he would live long enough to see Curt (my son) graduate from basic training, but it wasn't Gods Will. He was also a veteran and was very proud of curt. Please pray for my son and all of the other soldiers. This country owes it's Veterans and active soldiers more than we can ever repay. May God bless them all.

Mitch; I'm sure you're son will be in many steel players prayers. Sounds like he's been on a mission for awhile now and that he comes from very good stock. Thanks for posting it. _________________ Sho Pro SD10 and Nashville 400 & 112 |

Dale,
Thank you so much for your post. Me and my wife met in the 4th grade in Mrs. Pickering's class. She was my girlfriend in the 4th grade, the 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, 10th, 11th, 12th, and then we got married after we graduated high school. We were both eighteen. When we sent Curt off to boot camp, we talked about the letters that we used to pass to one another in elementary school, and how we never thought that one day, we would send a son off to join the service. This is new for me and her. With our first child leaving home, and daddy passing away, a post like yours is very comforting. It came at a good time. Thank you again.
Your Friend,
Mitch |

Mitch that boys gonna be fine. I think country raised kids who know hard work, early mornings, and aren't afraid of a little dirt, know and respect firearms, have a much easier time than kids who have been pampered their whole life. Boot camp will be like summer camp for him. Only one word of advice,, Make sure he keeps good records of everything he does while in service.Any injury, sickness, medication, trip overseas etc. It will make it easier to navigate the VA system when he is out. Make sure to thank him for all of us for his commitment. We all owe families like yours for the things we have and the way we live.

Mitch, that's great,You have every right to be VERY proud of your boy[MAN],When I was a kid I to spent a hard winter taking combat engineer basic in Leanard Wood,I was borned and raised in the South,[I thought to myself, what the hell did I get myself in to],But later on was glad I did.Even tho she has some faults,we are still living in the GREATEST country on earth,BECAUSE of men and women like your son,and ALL our heros that came before them, every American should back them up,and PRAY they stay out of harms way, don't you know. _________________ Hard headed, opinionated old geezer. Thank all of you so much for the comforting words. Calvin, I know you are proud of your son also. Although me and my wife worry, we just keep remembering that God can protect him no matter where he is. Steve, that is an excellent idea about the medical records! I never would have thought of that! I can see where those records could be priceless in the future. Charles, like you, Curt is already glad that he joined. And your right. this is the GREATEST country on earth! Thank you all again for your support. You'd be surprised how much it helps. I didn't intend to hijack the thread. When I get a chance to bragg on my children, it's hard to resist! I'll try to hush now!

Here's an update...
Our son Curt is now in Iraq, and has just been promoted to CPL. He is also married and has a new baby son. (my first grandchild ) He has been shot at several times, had motars fired at him, and his convoy ran over a roadside bomb. Two in his unit have been killed but so far, God has kept Curt alive. He is coming home in Oct. for two weeks, then will go back to Iraq. Please pray for him.
Thank you all.
