Patty Loveless is one of ,if not the best vocalists out there. She can sing any type of song. Next time you are surfing the UTUBE, check out Patty with Ricky Skaggs singing the old gospel song "Daniel Prayed" or Patty with Ralph Stanley singing the old BLUE GRASS song "Pretty Polly". I met Al Perkins when he was taking steel lessons from Al Petty in Odessa,TX. He has developed into a super player. Jody.

Wow! Straight 8's, not 4/4. Great country singing and steel playing. She's country in my book.

Linda Ronstadt did a straight 8's version a long time ago. Whoa!

Here's Linda's version from about '71 with some future Eagles, Sneaky Pete and I believe it's Gib Gilbeau on fiddle.

For what it's worth... Patty's version (and Ronstadt's) are both definitely in 4/4; they're just straight 8th's as opposed to a shuffle...

They're both great singers and both versions are unique. I like them both. I wonder if Patty has a version of Blue Bayou. I'll bet she could nail it. Smile

Patty's version is 100% class. Excellent vocal, and great back up.

Liked Patty's version for the singing and instrumental accompaniment, but I liked Ronstadt's mix of the rhythm section better. On Patty's version, the drums seem buried somewhere, at least thru my earphones ... Neutral

Making a connection to other threads, the arrangement also illustrates how moderating tempos opens up different playing possibilities.

I must have heard at least three dozen versions of Crazy arms over the years, but Patty's the best by far. I harldy even recognized it the first time. That whole album is delicious, one of my all time top 10 (of about 1500).

Everything she's done since "Mountain soul" has been absolutely outstanding, getting even better with each new album. Can't wait for the next one!

Patty can sing to me all day long! As stated above, one of the absolute best Country singers of all time. And she can cover every area of the genre and be right there with best. I love Linda also and won't attempt to compare them. Just two greats! And yes, great steel. Right on the money!

Patty Loveless, Linda R., Ray Price, straight 8ths, dotted 8ths, whatever - makes no difference to Ralph, he still gets his checks every Sat. morning. Very Happy

My apologies to Ray Price. Sorry, son, but I've gotta put Patty's rendition right next to yours.

Can you imagine the two of them in concert singing good ol' country tunes? Wish I were a promoter with deep pockets. I'd make it happen!

Patti Loveless has a rare plaintive quality to her voice, perhaps the vocal equivalent of 'come to bed' eyes? Whoa!
