Hi guys
I always thought Barefoot Jerry pushed the musical boundaries in the mid seventies. In particular, I always admired Russ Hicks' innovative approach to the steel and the way he and the whole band played such a variety of instruments, and all seemed to contribute so much to some fabulous variations of country songs and other musical adventures.I still have all the albums and play them regularly, Barefootin' being a particular favourite. Those albums still have a freshness about them. I know they were a 'get together' of session guys and guests, but what a unique mix of talent. Whatever happened to Wayne Moss, a musical genius. If my memory serves me right, did Weldon Myrick guest on some tracks ?
Fab music and playing.

Barry G., Weldon Myrick was a member of Area Code 615, the band which later became Barefoot Jerry. I, too, really liked Barefoot Jerry. I think all of their albums except one were/are available in CD format. The one that isn't is my personal favorite, Barefoot Jerry's Grocery. IMO, that is the quintescential "hillbilly concept album". I became a fan of Russ Hicks and Mac Gayden from listening to Barefoot Jerry albums.
Thanks for the reminder.
Keep on pickin'!

During the later 70's Barefoot Jerry and the band I worked with were booked by the same agency in Minneapolis and we opened for them a couple of times. Wayne Moss had a Jaguar or Jazzmaster with a palm pedal on it and could mimick pedal steel licks with Russ Hicks during songs. They had a kick a.. version of "The Battle of New Orleans" and the lead guitarist who's name was Barry I believe, did triple harmonies with Moss and Hicks. I, and some others, lost some of our gig money playing poker with them after shows and I seem to remember Russ had a nickname of "Eldorado". Wayne's son John said he had a thing for those big Cadilacs but that was a long time ago and memory can fade. However, they were a monster bunch of players and were great to work with. _________________ Emmons S10, p/p, Nashville 112, Zion 50 tele style guitar, Gibson LP Classic w/Vox AC30, Fender Deluxe De Ville and a Rawdon-Hall classical |
