I just got a great deal on a perfect Remington D8 and I have a question or two about tuning it. I'm very used to open D and E major tunings for 6 string lap steel. I'm thinking I should leave one neck tuned to C6, but the other one is beggin' for an open major tuning. I feel silly for asking, but how do you get a good E major tuning with 8 strings? It's a 24 1/4" scale, which gauges would work best and which notes, where? Thanks

I use an E major tuning on my Remington 8 Stringmaster. From hi to low the tuning is E, B,G#,E,D,B,G#,E. The string gauges are .15,.18,.22,.30,.34,.38,.42, .54.I guess this is actually an E7 tuning with the D on the 5th string.
I can easily change to C#m7 tuning by raising the second string to C#.I can also change to A6 tuning (E,C#,A,F#,E,C#,A,E) and B11 tuning( same as A6 but 5th string lowered to D#).

If I was to use an E-tuning, I think I'd prefer E9:
E .015p
B .018p
G# .022p
F# .026w
E .030w
D .034w
B .038w
E .054w
