I have old MSA s10 Red Baron must be 30 year old, I am just learning pedal E9th. How can I ajust the pedals they sound flat. When the B pedal is down the
#3 and #6 string are out of tune with the #6 string being flat. Help!

Hi Bob. Push the pedals down and tune those notes with the tuning keys, then let the pedals up and tune the open tuning [no pedals] with an allen wrench at the right endplate.
Let us know if this doesn't work out. |

You're most welcome. Glad I could help. I spent my first couple years learning pedal steel on a Red Baron! Best of luck on your pedal steel journey |

Hi Jerry, is the red baron a good one, is it a student model?
Well I still can not get the #4 E down enough by turning with the hex screw in the back. If I screw in hope to retune from there my KL won't drop the #4 E but will drop the #8 E. Any help will be greatly appreciated. |

My Red Baron was set up to lower the 2nd string 1/2 step and the 8th string 1/2 step as I recall, some later ones lowered the 4th and the 8th string 1/2 tone on the KL. The tuning procedure would be the same though so I don't really know unless something is out of whack.
Normally, you would tune the raises with the tuning keys, then the open tuning with one row of screws at the end plate. I have forgotten if there is a second row of screws for tuning the lowers or if it's attained by an adjustment under the guitar. Someone here probably knows. I'll do a little research on it though. [The tuning procedure is covered in the owner's manual below.]
Yes, the Red Baron and Sidekicks were student models and limited to minimum changes. Pretty good little guitar to learn on, but you'll probably want to upgrade sometime in the future. You can play a lot of music with just 3 pedals and 1 knee lever though.
EDIT: OK just found this owner's manual for the Sidekick, which is the same guitar, compliments of the Carter Steel Guitar Company's site. Hope this will help you. It's a pdf file so give it time to load. http://www.steelguitarinfo.com/downloads/OwnersManuals/MSA_Sidekick_OwnersManual.pdf |
