Anybody have thoughts on Lloyd Maines' licks series?

Hi Steve, I can't comment on the 60 licks tape but based on "Hot PSG" I'd say go for it. You gotta love Lloyd, he plays with great feel and tone which is inspiring for practice - great licks too. For building up a bit of speed, Jeff Newman's Right Hand Alpha and No Speed Limit are straightforward and very effective. I also really like the licks in John Bidasio's E9th Workbook (if you can find it).

Here's a link for you. Never dealt with them but please post back if you order something successfully as it's the only source I can find for Lloyds stuff on DVD. BTW Wally Moyers stuff is pretty decent but I think I'm right in saying only 30mins per vid. http://texasmusicsupply.com/pedal-steel.html

I like the stuff I've seen from Lloyd Maines. I always found it useful to come up with my own licks. Transcribing licks from other players on CDs is another great way to come up with some ideas for your own licks. Any Alan Jackson or George Strait CD is loaded with gems from Paul Franklin. I'll often find some ideas that I like, but that lead me in a new direction so that I find some ideas more suited to what I hear in my head. For DVDs you can't really go wrong with Jeff Newman or Joe Wright.

Hi Steve

I have Lick a minute . As far as I am concerned it is a great video. Nobody picks like Lloyd does. If you are wanting to spice things up the Lick a minute video also has some distorted slide type licks and he goes over a few organ tricks. You can't go wrong with Lloyd I think you'll dig it !
