What is the most popular pick up for a Derby s10?
What strings do you use? Contact me at 605 348-4861 (home phone) or e-mail answer to my daughter at oldgirl@rap.midco.net
Thank you |

Personally A george L 10-1 works best for me. I use ghs Boomers GB9 on Mine. But mine is black and black sounds the best even with no pick up & strings !! It sounds really good in my home studio, and the studios on Music Row, It sounds just as good in California as it does in Georgia.. It even sounded as good in Salt Lake City Utah in a studio where I was flown there to play on 3 tracks for a Hollywood movie AS it did in a bedroom studio in a house in Tampa Florida.. Heck it sounded as good in Canada as it did in The USA. It sounded as good on Lower Broadway in Nashville as it sounded in Charlies Shop when I watched him build it. LOL |

If you like a big vintage single coil sound, consider trying your Derby with a single coil standard Emmons P/U. That is of course if you don't mind the inherent noise issues of SC's. Worked for me.
Most popular? Well they come with E66's. |

I got my Derby SD-10 from Billy Cooper's about three years ago. It came with the George L E-66 PUP and George L strings. Since then I've gone through hoops to improve the tone, changing strings, pickups and amps. I now use a Wallace TruTone pickup, Cobra Coil strings, a Peavey Nashville 112 amp, Holy Grail reverb (although the spring reverb on the NV-112 is sufficient for much of what you'll do), Goodrich 120 volume pedal and George L cables. No one thing drastically changed the sound, but all of these things together plus learning to create (this elusive thing called) tone with my own playing technique, and I finally got it where I want it Good luck, Charles! |

When I purchased a D-10 Derby from a Forumite it had the stock GL E-66 pickups. I swapped them for "Truetones"(18.5K on the E-9)and the guitar seemed to come alive. |

David,
Did the Truetone PU fit the mounting holes on the Derby plate, I have a Emmons Single on mine and all four holes will not fit. I had to put it in two holes.
