Is anyone in on this auction? It appears to be a very early Fender Stringmaster D8 (pre-blend controls) serial number is 0510. It seems to be very long scale too -- four dots after the 2nd octave.
It's currently at $500 with 7 hours to go, but I would expect that to go up... I am not currently in the market for this, but thought others might be interested.

It's a 26" Scale length..NARROWER string spacing than later Stringmasters.
I have 0189, Alan Brookes "tarted' it up for me..
I got rid of the 'LollyPop" tuners and had the more functional Mk.2 type installed. The switch between the slide switches is a 3 position selector switch for either/or/all of the pickups. (Necessary as there is NO balance wheel on these Mk.1 models.)
HERE is my 1953 April (4-10-53 in the cavity) one :-

I was at work & got sent out before I could bid on it. I had some cash to blow...but I can't believe it went for this cheap.
Oh well, maybe someday there will be another.

Basil,
That's a very attractive Steel now. Alan Brookes definitely did a nice job restoring it. With the scale at 26" and the string spacing narrow, I imagine there's not much slanting possible on the lower frets? Still, it's a really nice guitar.

I would have hired Alan Brookes to restore this guitar that sold on Ebay had I bought it because it looked in terrible shape.
It sold for $696.
Any Forumites buy this?

You talk about an early serial number, I have a Fender Stringmaster quad with serial number #0002.
How about that! |

WOW Erv!!!
I'm sure that must've belonged to someone pretty famous. Leon McAuliffe maybe? Noel Boggs? I bet it was someone big!!!

Someone got a good deal. The normal reaction to that would be, "That could have been me", but, of course that's illogical. The person who bought it only got it for $696 because you didn't bid against him. If others had gotten into the bidding process it would have sold for a lot more. $696 is the price you COULD NOT have bought it for, because someone else already made that offer.... |
