Ray and crew,
Where can I get a copy of this Jerry Byrd album? It's sold out at the SGF store. I'm interested in Jerry's C Diatonic tuning. Also, there is a song called "Next to Jimmy" out there somewhere that showcases this tuning?
I think I'm hearing it on this version of Sand (when the vocal) begins @ 3:15.

Scotty's Music may have SGRW on cassette. I have it somewhere but not sure where as I don't use cassettes anymore.
Here's some info from earlier forum days you may find helpful including links to Jerry Byrd's arrangement of Cold Cold Heart in diatonic tuning. The Record Lady site referenced in the posts re "Next to Jimmy" is now unfortunately, defunct.

I got into the Diatonic a few years back and recorded this version of My Funny Valentine in an effort to figure out what I could do with the tuning. I didn't pursue it any further but I do think it has some unexplored possibilities for jazz steel playing.

Mike and Andy,
Thanks for your responses and help researching this tuning. Mike, thanks for the mp3.
Is JB's "Invitation" an example of C Diatonic? It sure sounds like it.

I've found "Romantic World".....by Jerry Byrd.
It's all done in C-Diatonic tuning.
Are you still interested in 'that' copy?
Let me know, as we're soon leaving town.
Perhaps I could send them to you via MP-3 and email? |

Mike -
Thanks for posting that rare track. Both Buddy Emmons and Tom Brumley have said that the solo in "Next To Jimmy" is one of their all-time favorites. FF. |
