I'm wondering if the Fender BF Super Reverb could be altered or tubed into sounding like a Tweed Bassman?

Dean, you should talk to Andy Marshall at THD. He is the man regarding Tweed Bassmans. (206) 781-5500. He'd love to talk to you.

I assume you are referring to the 5F6A Bassman and
the AB763 Super Reverb? There are also other 4-10" Bassman amps. I am building a near clone of the 1954 5D6 as we speak, a different circuit than the 5D6A, 5E6, 5E6A, or 5F6 Bassman amps.

Back to the SR and BM 5F6A;

tone stack in the BM uses 2 .022uf, the SR uses a .1 for bass and a ,022 for mids

the mid slope resistor is a 56 in the BM and a 100K in the SR

The mid pot is 25K in the BM and 10K in the SR
The bass pot is 1M in the BM and 250K in the SR

The first gain stage in the BM is a 12AY7 and is a 12AX7 in the SR

The first gain stage's cathodes are bypassed with a single 250uf cap on the BM, the SR has each cathode bypassed with a 25uf cap

The 3rd and 4th gain stage's cathodes do not have bypass caps. The SR uses a 25uf on the 3rd gain stage and does not have a 4th gain stage!!!

The BM uses a 12AX7 for the inverter and the SR uses a 12AT7.

There are other small differences. The main thing is the BM has 4 gain stages and the SR has 3 on channel 2 and only 2 gain stages on channel 1!!!

You could rebuild a Super Rev so the circuit is the same as a Tweed Bassman. You would have to decide if you wanted to keep the reverb and vibrato. The two circuits have a lot of similarities, so you could probably use the same circuit board, and most of the components, assuming they are good. I've done similar things in the past..Jerry
