Gerry Hogan is to be congratulated on putting together a varied and interesting show at Newbury over the weekend.
Joe Wright (and Theawfullous) were there and proved once again what a showman he really is. How he plays all that stuff without looking at the guitar neck is a mystery.
Albert Lee put on a 90 minute show with Gerry Hogan on steel which was packed out.
Richard Nelson jetted over from Ireland (Daniel O'Donnell's steel player and played really well.
B.J.Cole played some Purcell with a fine lady cello player and finished his set with his ambient music.
The Judy Jones band played a 45 minute set to s very reduced audience, their type of music failing to gain its true appreciation.
The local UK players were there: Derek Thurlby (who also played rhythm and lead guitar for several of the other players, Barry Smith, Vic Collins, Dave Hayward (who repeated his usual set), Norman Fletcher on non-pedal steel showing what a fine Hawaiian player he is) Dave Kirk with a fine set specially put together for the show.
Well done to everyone who took part especially Hogans Heros and the house band.

I'd never seen Joe Wright before & he was just amazing. Fantastically versatile, inventive and, as if that weren't enough, he sings & keeps up a running commentary as well |
