Hey everyone here in Little old (ROADY) Rhode Island we have a old timer Steel player Tony Poccia.Tony has been playing Steel Guitar for the last 65 years with the same band The Hayloft Jamboree. This band was originated by Eddie Zack and cousin Richie who were brothers. They had their two Sisters Babs & Meril in the band.Years ago they played at Jack Richey's sports Arena in North Attleboro Massachusetts and had at least 1000 people going to hear them every week end. They play all over the North East and diffrent parts of the country.
Well today is Saturday and Anna and I will be going to the American Legion Post 15 in East Greenwich Rhode Island to hear Babs,Meril And Tony Posha play in the band as the two Sisters are keeping the band going. We have lost Eddie and Richie a few years back and the girls are now in their 80's along with Tony.I asked Tony when he was going to give up playing and he told me when he could no carry the Steel Any more.He is still very strong and a great steel player. He is one of a few in the Country that plays a D-13 on a 1971 D-10 Push Pull Emmons that he bought from Shot Jacksons Steel player.Tony does not play out in any other group just with the band he has always been with.

I first listened to Tony back in the mid-1940s when he broadcast on the radio with the "Eddie Zack Dude Ranch Hayloft Jamboree" . I was just learning and he was one of my first Steel Guitar Heroes !!! He played an old "Epiphone Electar" six string with a homemade pedal changer rig with chains hanging to pedals on the floor , one of the absolutely first pedal steels getting all those fancy chords !! I have an old picture with him and his pedal rig , wish I could post it !! He still plays great , only now with an Emmons D-10 steel !! Eddie "C" |

Tony Thank You for correcting me on the spelling of Tony Poccia's last name spelling. I should have stopped and thought as Eddie Cunningham told me how it was spelled before and I did not think. Wait until you get pushing 73 in 4 months.I'm not getting old I'm getting better.Ha
