Bob,

Any 12AU7 should cut it. They are often also called ECC82 or ECC802. The only factor that you should look out for is to select one with low microphonics. I do have a stock of new JJ ECC82's here.

Some people are having the 12AX7 mod done to their Black Boxes so that they are much easier to service in the future since 12AX7's are so plentiful.

Bob,

I sent my Black Box to Brad for an upgrade recently. He swapped out the 12AU7 for a 12AX7, re-designed a few stages, gain levels and biasing, and sent it back to me with a very quick turnaround.

My MSA Millennium with a ToneAligner on board sounds better than ever through the Steel King with the upgraded BB in the signal chain. I set my vari-Z about 3/4 of the way to full high. Hard to explain, but the whole combination sounds more colorful somehow.

I recommend this upgrade highly, I can definitely tell the difference.
