Hi everyone,

Since I have recently moved back to Southern Illinois from Branson, MO for a few months before I move to Apache Junction, AZ, I would like an update on this areas steel players and bands in which they play. I remember many players from before I left the area, but I am sure there are many more who have come along since then.

I know Scotty, Don Curtis, Russ Wever (KC now), Fred Rushing, Jim Alexander, Mike Spaeth, Dave Flanigan and Dean Dobbins. Other names escape me at this time, so please help me out. I'd like to meet up with some of these guys and hear them play again and maybe do some jamming.

Is there an Illinois steel show anytime soon? Of course I know about the convention in St. Louis, and I'm not coming back to Branson for the OzSGA show, sorry. See you in St. Louis...

Nothing against the OzSGA, I promise. Me and Branson itself have parted ways, you might say. I have a great opportunity to perform with the Arizona Opry in Apache Junction, AZ near Phoenix and I am looking very forward to it. It was time to move on.

Thanks for helping me out.

God Bless,
Michael T.

Hi Wally. I'm living in Glen Carbon and my studio is in Carlyle so I'm back and forth all the time. Trying to find time to go visit Scotty and the gang.

We're not to far apart with you being in Glen Carbon. A couple of things that I am doing. On August 2nd, I'll be at Crehan's Irish Pub in Belleville. It's a musician's jam that starts at 4pm. I usually only play the first couple of sets because of my work schedule. It's little or no country. Mostly blues and the band sounds like it's rehearsed. Nice place with food.
On the 21st of August, I'll be with the Billy Barnett Band at Skooter's in Mascoutah, IL. from 9-1. This is fusion, blues, jazz, rock. Never really know what Billy may pull out of the hat. These guys are completly blown out musicians. Small place, but nice with really good food there also.
I've got some others that the Billy Barnett Band will be doing also in August. Just have to get them firmed up.
We'll have to get together for sure with us being this close. I'll try to round up some of the other fellows around these parts.

Michael, as you may remember I'm no longer there. I'm North West Arkansas playing two to three gigs a month. Good luck with your new venture!
