I'm with them. It has a lot of neat features and looks to be a real good pedal but it's a little pricey for a volume pedal. IMHO. Mr. Green

The VP appears to be from TELEMETRY-ELECTRONICS CONSULTANTS and the preamp looks like John LeMay's work (modified) to me.

I just keep saying over and over to myself...."$489.00 for just a volume pedal!" You got to understand though.....I say that about the Hilton volume pedals t0o. I keep hearing about how good they are, but approximately $300.00 for one? You can nearly get a completer Carter Starter for that.
Just me though.

While it is humurous to read the cracks about the price; it is a matter of your getting what you pay for. I too wish they could be a little cheaper for you, but compare it to a Hilton and all the extra options and capabilities; it is actually a great buy. If you look at it as an investment, because it will be the last volume pedal you will ever have to buy. With great cooperation and diligence with Telonics, Dave Beauty, and John Lemay we are all working together to just push the bar higher. If the only things that anyone put out, was the same old stuff, then there would not be much reason to buy anything right? We are moving to the future and taking the steel guitar to new heights. All the way from the volume pedal up to the guitar your hands rest on, to the sound you hear. The only thing missing is the player; the rest is all there........

We have teamed up with some of the best in the business to put these products out, and if they are over your head or your price range, there are several other things on the market, but if you want the very best, here it is. And considering they have only been on the market about a week, you can expect the posts to come after some have been delivered, which will be soon.

Not much sense in cracking on a company who is trying to keep the steel guitar alive and take it to the next level.

Don't see a lot of people cracking on the price of a new Plastic Pickup Truck, but you sure see tons of them on the road.

I dont believe anyone is cracking on the Mullens brand. We all know they make awesome products, and I dont believe they would skimp on anything they put there name on either.!!. I myself and i think others are just surprized about the price. I hope im wrong and they sell millions of them, but i just cant see them selling a bunch to the average steel players who can or cant afford them. 500 bucks is still alot of money.. Like I said, I hope Im wrong. Thats just my opinion.

Priced any quality effect pedals lately?

Maybe this won't sell to a lot of steel players. But I'll bet you'll see these foot controllers in a lot of high-end pedalboards, as guitar players (with stables of expensive guitars and boutique amps) discover the features. And that's a big market.

Kudos to the development team.

Dave Wright,
Everyone knows that Mullen has always made great products, but I am with Dave Wright. I believe that you will have your pro players buy some of them because of their quality, but for your average Joe, like me, as much as I would like to try one, I just can't see it.
Remember I said the same thing about Hilton pedals too. I have never heard a complaint about them.....other than the price.
Understand me Mike......I can't see paying a couple of hundred bucks for a seat either......no matter what the brand. I think I paid $35.00 for a piano seat which works great. No back or side pouch, etc., it does have nice padding, and really all I need for it to do is hold my narrow butt up to play the steel.
Believe me Mike, no digs against Mullen whatsoever.
Don't even go near the auto industry....HA!
I may never buy a new car again. Seriously. It's been thirteen years last time that I bought a new one.
I have a 91 Honda Civic hatchback that gets around 43 miles to the gallon (city or highway). Now they tell me to buy the hybrid that gets around 50 MPG. Technology is there to be better than this, but the oil companies have bought them all out.
See what you got started Mike???
Again, I would put Mullen up there beside any of them.

I have personally been using this pedal for the last week. The feature set on this pedal is incredible!
A programmable sweep that mimics just about EVERY pedal you can imagine. State of the art components, laser etched. ABSOLUTELY quiet operation. I have been using another name brand elctronic pedal for the last 3 years, and I can honestly say, there is marked difference in the quality of my tone. String seperation is much tighter, and there is an overall better response in all bands..This pedal will be under my guitar for a long time.
I invite all of you that are coming to Branson, to come see us in the Mullen room and try the new Mullen VP!
When I return from NYC wednesday, I will post a YouTube video on the pedals features...Hope you'll tune in!>..

I saw a Cadillac pick-up truck advertised last night on TV for $55,000-really.-- I just need a good, basic,pick-up truck and a volume pedal that sounds good! I felt really guilty when I scored a used Hilton offa e-bay a few months ago for $180....!

Mike,

Can you elaborate on the Optional Remote Sensor feature:

1] Give an example how the average steel player would use it.

2] It is listed as optional, how much extra will it cost?

The remote sensor costs $49.00 which includes a hat. It can be hooked anywhere really. It was mainly intended for disabled people that say do not have a right leg. How it works on the hat is; you can have your head straight and that is no volume, then as you tilt your head back the volume comes on, just like pushing the volume pedal. You can move the sensor around and it can come on at any point in the movement.

An anverage steel player could maybe use it on some C6th stuff where both feet are required to play, or make it easier to play with both feet. It is an option with endless possiblities. However the design idea came with the disabled in mind.

Mike thanks!

The option seems very reasonably priced and it's commendable that the pedal was designed with disabled people in mind. As more of our troops re-enter civilian life, the number of those with disabilities are expected to increase.

So......kudos to Telonics, LeMay and Mullen.

The pedal I recieved was invoiced at list price. I will be learning more about the unit this weekend as I will be with Del at the Branson Show. I will also have my first real exposure to the New Mullen Pre-Amp, and from what Del tells me its a real winner too. The guys at Mullen never cease to amaze me. They are always pushing the envelope on everything for our benefit. There are some more new things in the loop as well, and Im sure Del and Mike will be letting us all in on those shortly. I am really proud to be affiliated with these guys...Its a real blessing for me...Mullen Products consistently come out on top, and the customer service is tops!..

I am sure that this pedal will find it's place in this market. Considering the fact that, like the Mullen site said, it will be the last pedal you'll ever need. So..an extra couple hundred bucks for a VP, when you take into account poor quality volume pots at 30 bucks a crack, that lasts maybe 50 hours before they start to scratch, well, it takes something like 6 pots to make up the difference.

I am sure that the professionals will buy this unit, as well as the person who sees the benefit of no more pots!

As for me, who plays very little, all I can justify is to possibly get hold of a quality pot that doesn't go scratchy overnight.

Recommendations anyone?
