I thought I would post this here just in case there might be some interest - I can make custom printed wood veneer fret boards using a process I developed - I develop products for the computer graphics industries as part of my day job - I do have some limitations based on the size my printer can handle - At this time I can only print out 2 octaves for up to a 23" scale - I can a 24" scale but it will only have 21 frets - Width is no problem and the design possibilities are just about unlimited - I can print on birch, as shown in the photo and cherry veneer - The fret boards can be applied in several different ways and can come with several different backings - If anyone is interested they can contact me for details at dbrooker@dbrooker.com or I can answer questions here on the forum as well - Dennis Brooker

Very cool Dennis, I'm guessing this is not done on your everyday HP inkjet Wink
A question on the inks, do they fade and any bleeding from finish coats?

Tom - Thanks for the compliment - This process is done using a Laser printer Whoa! - Laser toner will NEVER fade - FYI, I hold the patent for the only inkjet printable wood veneer but it is not available commercially at the present time but should be in the very near future - DB

Dennis,

That's nice looking work. Cool

Can you also do that on plexiglass or Lexan where the fret markings would be on the underneath side and show through in bright solid colors?

Can you suggest what the cost would be?

Danny - I can make the fret markings or anything most any color and a piece of plexi or lexan can be applied over the top of the printed veneer - If you don't care for the printed veneer but just want something reverse printed on plastic that I can't do - What I could do is design all the files needed to cut sign vinyl and that could then be applied to the bottom side of lexan and you could have that done at a local sign shop - If you want to discuss details why don't you contact me off list - I wouldn't want to bore the other forum members Winking - DB
