It's the Universal serial #1C6720. It is in excellent condition for sitting 10 years. I'm restoring the pedal bar by repolishing it and glassbeading the pedals of which it has seven and putting nylon spacers between the pedals instead of steel washers. The top is real nice as the underside but it will need to be cleaned. Then, wha-la. I am sure impressed by the quality of workmanship. I don't see any around.

That guitar was made around 1980, give or take a year. It has a triple raise triple lower changer. It is part of the last generations of MSA guitars before the company folded.
It's a wonderful guitar, as you will see when you get it restored and rebuilt. _________________ Please visit my web site and Soundcloud page and listen to the music posted there.

David......Serial number 1C6720 is shown in production records as being a walnut single 12 Universal with 7 pedals, 5 knee levers, and was originally sold off the MSA factory showroom floor. Since it was assigned for that purpose, the original buyers name is not a matter of record. The date of completion was not entered into record.
You have a beautiful guitar, and we appreciate your being part of the ever growing MSA family. |

I can't praise the OLD MSA'S enough,[can't speak about the new ones, never owned one] For the last several years have played a 74 D-10 CLASSIC, NEVER one problem with it,[except the weight] Getting old with a bad back, just traded it for a 76 CLASSIC S-10,It's still beautiful and plays SMOOTH as silk. These old MSA'S are like owning an Amazon parrot,They will wear you out BEFORE you can wear them out.Over the years have owned almost every big name brand out there,When I got my first MSA that STOPPED my trading days,The ONLY reason I traded the D-10 was it was getting TOO heavy for a 70 year old geezer that has to tear down and set up several times a week, and load and unload it in the belly of a bus, over and over. Before I traded made sure to find another Classic, only an S-10.One thing I don't understand [mentioned this one time before]is why [in my opinion] one of the best made guitars, and most dependable don't bring the prices that some of the old Buds,Emmons, etc do.LOVE THOSE MSA'S, DYK?BC. _________________ Hard headed, opinionated old geezer. I think there are several reasons.
1- There are an awful lot of them around. MSA not only made th4e best steels, they seem to have made the most as well.
2- People idolize Buddy and Lloyd and Jimmy Day, (justifiably) and want to play the guitars they played.
3- MSAs have a different sound than other brands. Comparing an MSA to an Emmons is kind of like comparing a big hollow body jazz guitar to a telecaster. The MSA (well, mine at least) have a deeper more mid-rangey tone. Not as bright and considerably less twang than an Emmons or Sho Bud.
The key to getting good tone out of an MSA is to accentuate the guitar's natural tone, not try to get it to sound like something else.
I've said it before but it's worth repeating: Thank you Reece for making the best steels in the world. _________________ Please visit my web site and Soundcloud page and listen to the music posted there.

David,
I have 1C-6910 The Universal, Mr Anderson said it was made in 1982, don't remember the exact date, so yours should be late 1981, or early 1982. If your's is like mine, you will like the tone and playability. Also if you decide to change things around, they are easy to setup.Really neat to find something like that under a bed..Enjoy Bill _________________ Bill Ford S12 CLR, S12 Lamar keyless, Misc amps&toys Sharp Covers

Hi David, you will love this series of 80's MSA laquer-aluminums, a lot of us think they sound like a Sho-bud, but play flawlessly like an MSA does! |

I had one just like it from the same era too. I had it for over 20 years. In 2002, I changed over to a Millennium. I guess I'm just an MSA kinda guy. |
