I would like to run the Pre - amp output (thru a DI -box) to my Recording desk, because I prefer the EQ tailoring. In order to cut out the amp's live speaker sound, I've inserted a dummy 1/4 inch plug into the 'Power amp input'(all on the back panel)......is this acceptable?
..I just want to make sure that I don't do something wrong.

Regards,
Nic

Nic, why don't you use the Line Out jack in the back of the Session 500? It is designed to do what you want to do without a direct box if I understand you correctly.

Check here on page 5.

I believe the line out will still pass signal through the speaker... but the headphone jack will kill the speaker signal.. if I remember right. Not sure about your question about the dummy plug.

Hi Roger,
Like I said in my post, I do use the line - out on the back panel. The DI is to cancel a slight hum....cleans up the signal really nice.
By inserting a cable in the 'Line-out' does not kill the live speaker sound. I've plugged an un-wired 1/4 inch jack into the 'Power-Amp' input (on the back panel). So, in theory I reckon the Pre-amp is now disconnected from the power-amp....which is waiting patiently for an input signal (none) from another source.
Hope this makes sense to you.
Regards,
Nic

Dave, Tried that.... Apparently it's meant as a headphone monitor, in addition to your amp being live. Could be nice for on-stage scenario, although I've never felt the need for it.

The dummy jack is the perfect way to cut off the preamp signal to the power amp

Thanks for your input....Appreciated.

Couldn't you just unplug the speaker from the speaker jack to silence the speaker?

Dear John Smile ,
Without going into a lengthy technical explanation, the short answer is : NO.
Only unplug the speaker when the amp is switched off.
I'm sure Ken Fox could give you a more detailed explanation, but the safest way is to take the power amp totally out of the signal path.

Try turning the post gain off. That shouldn't effect the pre amp/line out.

Hi Tony,
The session 500 is really a different beast!
I've originally tried what you suggest...... On both the 'Pre-amp out'(Post EQ), and the 'line-out' (pre- EQ)(Yep.....separate outs...) turning down the main gain kills the output signal.
See the reply from Ken Fox...... I'm using it that way now, and there's peace in the studio! Very Happy
