I'm new to the forum, trying to get a knee lever kit for my Fender student 10. My model is the same old black tolexed box I've seen all over the forum. Is there a guy named Coop who still makes these lever kits?

I also have a question: Seems my one knee lever lowers the two E's, but I've seen a post here that says it should lower 8 and 2? Other's I've seen, including the undercarriage of and identical guitar on the forum, the knee lever is hooked up to the E's. Maybe this guy was wearing some Rolling Stones pajamas that folks were making fun of? My instructor advises me that the knee lever should lower both of the E's, but I'm having a heck of a time getting both the knee lever and pedal #3 to be in tune at the same time? Any advice on tuning both? Maybe I am doing things in the wrong order.

Hey Thomas,
I just picked up the very same steel not a month ago. Mine had the owner's manual included (thankfully).

To tune the knee lever:
1. Tune the string to the lowered pitch with the tuning peg.
2. Tune the string up to its open (no knee lever) pitch with the nylon tuning nut
3. Activate the knee lever, and adjust it flat or sharp using the knee lever stop screw and nut. (i might add that it's worth it to take the stop screw out and give it a little love with some light oil.

Tune your pedals as normal, and now both your C pedal and RKR should be in tune.

In addition, If there are knee lever kits available, I would be interested in purchasing as well.

Hope that helps

Ian

Thanks Ian! So, Tune the knee lever first and then the pedals?

One more thing, Ian: Does your knee lever lower both E's or 2 & 8?

No worries,

I've tuned the pedals first, then the knee lever. However if you tune the knee lever correctly, it won't affect your C pedal - I struggled with it for 45 minutes before consulting the manual myself. Just make sure you tun it to the lower note 1st (Eb) then tune it up to pitch (E) using the nylon tuning nuts. Then make the final adjustments in the knee lever travel.

If i get a chance, I'll try and scan the manual for you this week so you can have a copy.

Mine RKR is set up like yours.

If it's a pull-release changer, you need to press the C pedal, and tune the 4th string to F# at the keyhead.

Release the pedal, activate the knee lever to lower the string, and tune the lower to Eb with the nut at the changer end of the steel.

Tune the centre position (E) with the knee lever stop screw.

If it's not a pull-release mechanism, ignore this post Shocked
