Theres a Nashville 400 for sale around here(Middle of nowhere)and the guy say`s the speaker is a "Bass 15 inch speaker". $150. Right now all I have is a Keyboard amp(15 inch).What do you guys think Question

I believe that when the Nashville 400 was first introduced, Peavey was using a 15-inch bass speaker. You'll like the Nashville 400 a lot more than the keyboard amp.

With no speaker it's worth more than $150 if it's working. The speaker is likely a Black Widow 1502 which is geared more to a bass speaker. But either way you can't go wrong!

If that has the chrome corners hardware it is one of the early NV400's. The early ones had the 1502 speaker, which is as mentioned a bass speaker. However, most of those don't necessarily need the mod you often hear about, and do sound pretty decent. They eventually switched to the 1501 speaker, but didn't immediately alter the electronics to match the new speaker. Peavey came up with a factory mod to tweak the electronics to better match the speaker. The speaker should have a small tag on it somewhere identifying it as a 1501 or 1502. There is a serial number range of the amp which if it is below that it would likely not need the mod. Unfortunately I don't have that serial number range, it might be on the Peavey website, or you can contact the Peavey folks via email or phonecall and they can shed some light on the serial number question. I have two of the early chrome hardware amps without any mods, and they sound good. If you can get it for $150 jump on it if the amp is working. At that price I don't think you can go wrong. Worst case is you can eventually get the Ken Fox mod and still be ahead from a price perspective. The NV400 amps are great for PSG and will likely sound better than the keyboard amp. I doubt you'll be sorry you get that amp.

Thank-you all for the information.After I posted I talked to the owner and he said the speaker was not original. He said that he had a bass speaker instaled and used it to practice at home. He said it was very powerful and sounded good for bass or lead. He said it has chrome corners.He said a couple of knobs and the front cloth was mising but the speaker had a grill cover.I realy apreciate all youre replys.Thanks again.

John, thanks for keeping me honest and setting things straight regarding the origin of the mod for the NV400. I was aware of the John LeMay mod, and assumed it was a different mod than the "Mod Kit" available from the Peavey folks. I also assumed the Peavey mod came first, and was ultimately integrated into the production models. I'll mention this, but not sure if it is the same as the others, and not sure when it came along, but there is also the Ken Fox mod.

Probably worth noting is the fact Peavey no longer has a "mod Kit" package, though they do have a list of the parts needed and the schematic. John LeMay also has his mod kits available and when I spoke with him late last summer was still performing the mods for people. And Ken is also still performing the mods for people. The primary reason for mentioning the mod in my initial post was that when Peavey changed the speakers from 1502 to 1501 installed in the production of the amps, someone somewhere realized some tweaks were needed to make the new speaker sound better, AND that in some cases the older amps did not necessarily require the mod IF they were built with, and still using, the 1502. In other words, I was trying to explain the need for the mod, and at the same explain that it was not always necessary.

Well, I took a chance and bought it. $125. The speaker is a BW, but not the original. The compressor makes a little static, so I brought it to a friend of mine and he said he`d take a look at it(he works on electronics).Hope I did the right thing. Thank-you all who took the time to reply. This FORUM is the best. Smile

IF THE 1502 HAS WRINKLES THAT IS THE BASS. THEY WILL TAKE A BEATING IF IT IS SMOOTH IT IS 1501 MORE FOR GUITAR .BUT EITHER IS GOOD I HAVE HAD BOTH IN THE 400 AMPS. BUY THAT THING NOW

I just modded an older N-400 with a 1502-4 and my customer was thrilled with the new tone.
