Well, no steel for me for a couple of weeks. Mashed my bar hand thumb with a chop saw today.
I shoulda known, cut small piece off of big one, but no, I had to try to cut an 8 inch long piece of 1 inch square oak in half. Holding the piece with the left hand, the saw grabbed the piece and spun it about the long axis, trapping my thumb between the workpiece and the backstop, giving it a whack enough to tear a 2 inch long laceration from the center of the nail back the length of the thumb. It's on the backside, and all the remaining parts work, so the doctor said my days of "hand modelling" are over, but the thumb will recover.
In about 10 days the stitches come out and it will be back to pickin.
In the meantime I can eat the "pills", and study Don Sulesky's course I just found in the pile. Maybe review Jeff Newman's Minor Chord Connection without blowing a gasket :>) |

Glad you're going to have a complete recovery. Be careful everyone.... there's all kinds of things out there just waiting to bite you. |

I am sorry you had that accident. I hope from now on, use the proper tools for the job. A chop saw is for crosscutting, not ripping. Your lucky it didn't lob off your whole thumb. Thank God you just got a wake-up call. Now, let the thumb heal, and get back to holding the bar and playing music. (I was in construction for 46 years, and I have seen, and done, some stupid things, and lucky I never got maimed from them.) _________________ Sho-Bud LDG, Martin D28, Ome trilogy 5 string banjo, Ibanez 4-string bass, dobro, fiddle, and a tubal cain. OK, stitches are out, thumb works, itches like hell, time to play on...
I was lucky this time, no permanent loss of service. I have become quite nervous around spinning blades however.
A little fear can be a good thing.
Thanks all. |
