I have been listening to Sirius XM Sat radio at work and besides all the insanely perfect Robbie Fulks, Peter Cooper ( Lloyd G) HankIII, Shooter Jennings, Dale Watson (Ricky D) etc cuts/albums..

I heard a Bobby Flores cut that just put me off the road. I think it was "My Life..." and I didn't get the rest of it on the ID screen.

MAN!

WHat a bunch of REAL Steel Guitar.

Not knowing Mr Reinhart's playing, I'd only be guessing who it was, but Bobby Flores has got some playing on his songs that I can only say I'm glad I got to live to hear..

The listeds are partially: Randy Reinhard, Jerry Blanton, Gary Carpenter, Tommy Detamore, Jim Loessberg, Dicky Overbey, Rick Price, Herb Steiner, Bobby Flores.

Wow.

Happy Fourth,

I've been blessed by being able to work long and hard hours driving heavy const, finally this year, and playing gigs every weekend in a remission/recovery. 3 month "eval" coming up next week, and I'm putting weight on, and coming up from a long tough year. It's been raining death on all my friends, and I'm a little damp my durn self..

Pretty much detached from the Innernet, except from XM Sat radio, which has been TOTALLY overwhelming.

Like I said, Robbie Fulks, The Flatlanders, Dale Watson, The Gourds, Lucinda, Eliz Cook, Wayne Hancock (GREAT RETRO STEEL) and the whole gang at Outlaw Country have given me a 'sirius' bon@r for REAL COUNTRY MUSIC. (can I say that??)

REAL STEEL GUITAR hasn't gone away.

People like Bobby Flores and the above mentioned have taken it in.

MOve it to "Music" if you have to b0b, but the STEEL PLAYERS in this little "Outlaw" bandwidth to me, are what makes it.

Happy Fourth. Off to a Casino Gig after I pick up the drummer and go help find his drums... If the band is lucky I won't have room for my Tele..

Smile

You got that right. Bobby Flores is one of the newer country artist that truly does country music. I think he may be one of the best, if not the best, musicians I've ever heard. He can do it all, plays all the instruments, does great vocals, and has a super super super ear for arranging.

It's so good to know that people of my generation are still interested in country as it was defined by the masters.

That live band has had one of the deepest – perhaps the deepest? – steel player rosters in the business. Steel cat blew a terminal hangnail? No problem — the drummer could come around to steel, or the guitarist could, and the front man could certainly lay down his bow and pick up the bar should he care to.

It can be disheartening, though, when a drummer or fiddler can easily outplay the "steel player" listening to them. (Should've stuck with kazoo.)

Since Bobby's been at it since 1968, I'm not sure he qualifies as "new." He's certainly currently active – perhaps one of two apex predators at the top of the shuffle circuit food chain – if that's what you mean.

You can check out Bobby's CDs at www.yellowroserecords.com ......I've bought a few and I enjoy Bobby's music everyday. Also the CD by Christine Mims, I believe, all the songs have Randy Rinehart playing steel. I enjoy doing business with them also, great folks, IMO.

Good you hear that you are well back on the recovery road. Fantastic news. Your frequently humourous and sometimes ascerbic posts are missed here.

Best of luck to you.

Ken

One of the reasons I live in Sealy Tx is to be able to go visit these great players while working there magic Live. I have gained lots of history and they have shown me the real meaning of less is more. We also have a local Texas music station that helps the local artist be heard. I do like XM radio but do not have there service in my vehicles any longer since the merger of Sirrus and XM. OH yeah if you like Bobby check out Jade Jack she is extremely talented and knows what country IS.

I have all of Bobby Flores' CDs and I just play them constantly. What an amazing musician he is! He's got a great voice and he's a virtuoso on several instruments including pedal steel, although he mostly delegates the steel work to others. And of course those 'others' are some of the absolute best steelers anywhere. I like to practice by playing along with CDs and the Bobby Flores CDs are what I use more than anything else. They're also a great advertisement for Emmons push/pull guitars since those are prevalent.
