I got word from Gene's bass player, Staley Rogers, that their guitar player, Randy Prince, was killed in a wreck on the way to bus call last night. Some of you may know him but most everybody knows Gene's steeler Corky Owens.
Keep Randy's family and Gene and the band in your thoughts and prayers as they continue on to Nashville to do the Opry tonight. They are all really bummed out as you would expect but they are gonna play anyway unless something has changed from the last time I talked to Staley. _________________ Gaylon's Homepage

Gaylon, thanks for the post. I was previledged to provide sound for Gene Watson last weekend in Mineola, Randy's home town. He had been playing for years and last Saturday was his first time to play in his hometown. I knew him in high school. He was a super nice guy. He will be greatly missed. My thoughts and sympothies go out to the Gene Watson band. |

Our Prayers go to Randy & family, I had the opportunity to work with Randy on a sit down gig at "The Silver Dollar Club" in Lufkin Texas for about a year in the late 80's, I was new with the group, Randy was the band leader, I must truly say he was one of the Best Lead Guitar players till this day I ever met,and worked with.. God bless. |

Such sad news. I remember Randy from back when he played at Gilley's and then a few years afterward. What a great musician he was, and what a great ear he had; he was nice to everyone. My condolences to Randy's friends and family. |

I am so sorry to hear this. I worked with Randy in the early '70s around the Tyler, TX area and again at Gilley's Club. He was an outstanding guitarist and a great guy. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family. |

Although I don't remember meeting Randy, I have had the pleasure of dealing with the band through the years and all are a great bunch to work with.

Miss Eva & I took in The Gene Watson Show at The Tri-Lakes Center in Branson last night and of coarse it was a sad time to miss Randy and Gene made a special announcement about his accident. Woody Woodriff who I understand played several years with the Farewell Party Band filled in and was great.Had a brief but nice visit with Corky. |

Here is a photo that I came across of me and Randy at Gilley's. This was probably sometime in 1979.
