I believe this is at least the 2nd time Jeff has been part of a Teves effort. Here he helps with the arrangements, sings back-up, plays piano, and for those of us that can't get enuf, applies his fine steel stylings - www.starbulletin.com/features/20090710_island_mele.html
There are a few very brief samplings of the material at the bottom of the review. |

Jeff has that "indirect approach to the note" which is the only way I can describe it---a subtlety with the bar that maintains a sense of movement and interest without sounding restless. In less capable hands, this can come out as an exaggerated delaying of resolution (in an attempt to sound more "Hawaiian"), or just plain ol' out of tune. IMO, this is one of those things that separates good players from really great ones. |

Jeff Au Hoy's playing on "Sapphire of the Tropics" is fantastic. A beautiful solo in the middle and beautiful comping throughout. |

I find Jeff musicianship outstanding on the piano and the Hawaiian Steel Guitar.
His Hawaiian steel guitar playing is the classic way that I like to hear Hawaiian music played. My favorite on the Jeff Teves album is Nani. Listen to Jeff Au Hoy's mastery of Steel on that number.
I like Jeff Teves OK, but I do not see him as an outstanding soloist. The group singing on the song, Nani, is excellent in terms of the blend of voices and the smoothness of sound. Reminiscent of the Kahauanu Lake Trio
